Wishing well
steel, distilled water, circulated coins and tears
2020
Wishing well is a work that changes gradually over time, as the dirt from the countless hands that has handled the coins, along with tears and water, slowly makes the steels rust. While the title points to faith and goodwill, the rust and tears rather carry connotations of sorrow and decay. As more coins and rust accumulate to form landscapes on the bottom, the waters surface casts a reflection that allows for contemplation, or if one wishes, participation through the act of tossing a coin.
Installed in the exhibition Ytspänning at Galleri Konstfack, 2020.
